2 min read

In tribute to visionary scholars, The University of Ngaoundéré organised a symposium on 11 June 2024 on 50 years of development in Northern Cameroon. The Faculty of Arts, Letters and Human Sciences (FALSH) thus wished to honour the memory of the eminent professors Motaze Akam and Joseph Domo under the theme « Fifty years of development in Northern Cameroon: assessment, challenges and prospects ».

The symposium was opened with addresses by the Dean of FALSH, represented by the Vice-Dean, Prof. PARÉ DAOUDA, and the Head of the Department of Sociology, Prof. FALNA Taubic. They expressed their gratitude to all those who made this event possible, in particular the Rector of the University, Professor Mamoudou AbdoulMoumini.

The Rector was represented by Professor Voudwé Bakréo, the Secretary General of The University of Ngaoundéré, who celebrated the legacy left by the deceased professors. Their groundbreaking work in the fields of sociology and development had a profound impact on the mindset and progress of the northern region of Cameroon.

The main objective of the symposium was to raise awareness of the development challenges in the northern region and to explore sustainable and achievable goals for its future growth. Academics, policymakers and community leaders came together to share their ideas and contribute to this important dialogue.

The commitment of The University of Ngaoundéré to fostering intellectual debate and honouring the contributions of its eminent faculty members demonstrates its dedication to advancing knowledge and promoting positive change in the region. This symposium is a fitting tribute to the visionary scholars whose work continues to shape the path of development in northern Cameroon.
