The University Community Pays Final Tribute to Professor BEDA TIBI

On 21 September 2024, Professor BEDA TIBI, a leading figure in Cameroonian higher education, was buried in an atmosphere charged with emotion at his home in the Domayo neighbourhood of Maroua, in the Extrême-Nord region. His death, which occurred on 7 September 2024 in Garoua, left an immense void in the academic community.

🕊️ A Memorial Ceremony at the University of Maroua

On the eve of the burial, on 20 September 2024, the University of Maroua, through a solemn ceremony held at Lecture Hall 500 D on the Ouro-Tchédé campus, paid a heartfelt tribute to the deceased. The ceremony, chaired by Prof. IDRISSOU ALIOUM, Rector of the University of Maroua and representative of the Minister of State, Minister of Higher Education, was marked by the presence of the representative of The University of Ngaoundéré, Prof. Paul Henri EKOBENA FOUDA, as well as other dignitaries and members of the academic community.

In his speech, Prof. EKOBENA FOUDA expressed The University of Ngaoundéré’s deep condolences and support to the family of the deceased, while emphasising the inestimable loss represented by the death of Professor BEDA TIBI.

📜 A Remarkable Academic and Scientific Legacy

The tributes paid to Professor BEDA TIBI unanimously recognised his immense contributions to the academic world. During his 34 years of service in Cameroonian universities, he distinguished himself through his hard work and dedication. His peers and friends spoke with admiration of a « scholarly master of national and international renown, rigorous and meticulous, an active researcher, a living library and a devoted patriot. »

Dean of the Faculty of Science of The University of Ngaoundéré, Prof. DJONKA Dieudonné, recalled the great loss for Cameroon, stressing that the country has just lost one of its most brilliant sons. With 3 books published and 96 scientific articles to his credit, Prof. BEDA TIBI’s scientific legacy will remain indelible in the history of higher education.

🔬 An Exemplary Academic Career

Professor BEDA TIBI held several positions of responsibility during his career. He was notably Deputy Director of the ENS of Maroua, Vice-Rector in charge of Teaching, Planning and ICT Development (VR-EPDTIC), Head of the Department of Physics and Technical Adviser to the Rector of The University of Ngaoundéré.

His expertise, know-how and passion for teaching and research will remain etched in the memory of all those who had the good fortune to cross his path.

The passing of Professor BEDA TIBI leaves a considerable void in the Cameroonian and international university community. His work, dedication and influence will continue to inspire many generations of students, researchers and lecturers.
